Placeholder: how a post looks on this site

A placeholder that shows every format a post can use: headings, lists, code, tables, quotes and images. The first real post will replace it.

  • Placeholder
  • Formatting

This post is a placeholder. It shows how the layout looks before the first real article is written. Each block below is one of the formats a post can use.

A section heading

Body text is set for long reading: a narrow column, relaxed line height and a muted color, with bold for the few words that matter and links in the accent color. Inline code such as retryWithBackoff() stands out from the text around it.

A smaller heading

  • Unordered lists hold short, parallel points.
  • Each item stays on one idea.
  • Long items wrap and keep their indentation, like this one, which goes on for a while to show what happens when a line breaks on a phone.
  1. Ordered lists hold steps.
  2. The numbers use the accent color.
  3. Three steps are enough to show it.

Code

A TypeScript block with a file name and two highlighted lines:

retry.ts
export async function retryWithBackoff<T>(task: () => Promise<T>, attempts = 3): Promise<T> {
  for (let attempt = 1; ; attempt++) {
    try {
      return await task();
    } catch (error) {
      if (attempt >= attempts) throw error;
      await new Promise((resolve) => setTimeout(resolve, 2 ** attempt * 1000));
    }
  }
}

A Python block:

def backoff_seconds(attempt: int, base: float = 1.0, cap: float = 30.0) -> float:
    return min(cap, base * 2 ** attempt)

A long shell command, which scrolls sideways on a phone instead of breaking the page:

curl --silent --show-error --retry 3 --retry-delay 2 --header "Accept: application/json" "https://example.com/api/v1/articles?status=published&limit=100"
A block without a language is shown as plain text.

Tables

AttemptWait before the next tryTotal time waited
12 s2 s
24 s6 s
3Gives up6 s

Quotes

A quote or a callout gets the accent border. Keep it short.

Images

The social image of this site, with Leonardo's photo, name and roleAn image fills the width of the column. The text in quotes after the path becomes its caption.

That covers every format. The first real post will take this placeholder's place.
